HOW TO CLEAN GLASS SHOWER DOORS

If your bathroom has glass shower doors, you probably know that they are highly susceptible to showing unsightly watermarks, streaks and grime. Glass shower doors can instantly give your bath space a more elegant and sophisticated look, but they do require more maintenance than a machine washable shower curtain. While they are beautiful and modern, a dirty glass shower door isn’t so pretty and when your shower or bathtub is unclean, your whole bathroom looks dirty.

Whether you've inherited your glass shower door or you've installed it yourself, you'll need to know how to properly clean it to maintain its luxurious charm and appeal. Glass is a material that can typically handle routine water exposure, but that doesn't mean it's immune to unruly shower grim and water spots.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU CLEAN YOUR SHOWER DOORS?

When you neglect your glass doors, the residue and buildup can really….well build-up, only leaving you with more work to do. Cleaning your glass doors every day can save you a lot of time and while daily cleaning may sound like a huge undertaking to add to your already packed routine, it pays off in the long run. Simply using a squeegee to clean your shower with glass doors after every use quickly will help you to prevent streaks and reduce buildup from soap scum.

If you’re following regular maintenance, you should only need to do a deep clean about once a month. However, if you forget to wipe your glass sliding doors every day, you will need to clean your shower doors at least once a week to avoid buildup. Follow these steps for sparkling frameless glass shower doors, sliding glass shower doors, or fixed glass doors for the shower. We suggest playing some tunes, that way it won’t feel like such a tedious chore.

HOW TO CLEAN YOUR GLASS SHOWER DOORS

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Spray bottle

  • Scrub sponge

  • White vinegar

  • Dish soap

  • Baking soda

  • Glass cleaner (optional)

  • Cloth or towel

Step 1: Wet with Water

Start by spraying your shower glass with water. Use your shower sprayer or splash them with a bucket or pitcher of water.

Step 2: Create your Cleaning Solution

Fill a spray bottle with ¼ cup of dish soap, a cup of water, and ½ cup of white vinegar. Vinegar is an effective cleaning solution because it can cut down grime buildup without damaging the glass.

Step 3: Spray and Saturate

Spray the glass doors with your vinegar solution from top to bottom and let it marinate for at least 10-30 minutes. Letting it sit for up to 30 minutes allows the vinegar solution to break down the crime.

Step 4: Scrub the Glass Clean

Using a clean sponge or cloth, scrub the door. Dip your sponge or cloth into the baking soda to scrub abrasive water spots and soap scum. Baking soda can act as a gentle abrasive to cut through grime when your vinegar solution alone doesn’t work.

Step 5: Rinse with Water

Once the glass looks clean, rinse it with fresh water using the spray from your shower or a pitcher.

Step 6: Dry with Clean Cloth

Using a clean, dry cloth or microfiber cloth wipe clean. If any streaks remain use glass cleaner to finish with cleaning and to add some shine.
